Q & A
I’m in basic skills classes… When should I start taking private lessons? Basic Skills classes are great, but private lessons are focused specifically for you. It is very beneficial to begin privates early on, whether you are a little behind in your class and would like to catch up so you can pass… Or if you simply want to move through the levels at a faster rate. In order to take private lessons, it is required that you are in classes until you pass through Basic 8. After that, it is your choice if you would like to stay in classes, or take only privates.
When can I skate in competitions? We have four Basic Skills competitions a year. At these competitions, you can begin competing from levels Snowplow Sam 1 all the way through Freeskate 6. No matter what level, Basic Skills are very fun for the students! They get to pick their own music, create a program to go with the music, dress up, and go have fun competing with other skaters their age… Then at the end, they get a medal!
When should I get my first pair of skates? As soon as you know that you or your child love skating and are going to stick with it for awhile. Rentals are fine at first, but that is all. Having your own skates is very important.
